I Want to Explore the Dark The vacuum of space defined by modern particle theory is a strange place indeed. From an unchanging "void" it has become an active arena out of which particles might be created or into which they might be destroyed. Just as light was supposed to excite waves in the aether according to Newton, we now envisage elementary particles to be excitations out of the vacuum state. That vacuum might even be the "source" of all matter in the universe. We may have dispensed with the classical aether of Aristotle and Huygens, but in the process have come to speculate about matters which may seem even more bizarre. Perhaps we have just come full circle. After all, how much closer can we come to the "indefinite" of [the early Greek philosopher] Anaximander? Recall once again his words: the "indefinite". . . . . . is neither water nor any other of the so-called elements, but some different, boundless nature, from which all the heavens arise and the worlds within them; out of those things whence is the generation for existing things, into these again does their destruction take place, according to what must needs be. Anaximander's words now appear prophetically familiar. Although we have come a long way from the cosmogony of Anaximander and the earlier myths of the primeval ocean, and our explanations have become more sophisticated and more scientific, the basic questions driving our inquiries are the same. We are still searching for the fundamental constituents of the matter that we can see and touch, and we still wonder about the origin, nature, and existence of the dominant "stuff" in the universe. As our knowledge of one realm has improved so has our ability to speculate about and probe another.

Heart diseases, increased levels of blood pressure and sugar are more likely to happen if the person is a regular consumer of oily junk foods. 6. Since junk foods are not easy to digest and consume larger amounts of energy from the body in the process, people consuming them experience lack of oxygen levels which gradually causes the brain to function poorly. 7. Not only heart, but liver can be damaged due to excessive cholesterol formed in the body due to junk food habits. 8. More people are diabetic early in life because they eat junk food more often. 9. No fiber in junk food means strain on stomach and digestive system resulting in problem of constipation. All the points discussed about junk food above lead us to conclude that junk food does all harm to your heath without providing any health benefits. He indicates he eels that it is a sin and against Gods will, but that God gave man free will and he can choose his own fate. And, while he feels the need to try to help and educate homosexuals, if they disagree with those ideas, forcing the issue will only drive them further away. In his words, â€Å"forcing the Bible down someone’s’ throat is no way to build a flock†. This is what is so great about this country, you ca n do that. Realize though, that same law that gives you the right to speak your mind, also give others the right to not listen. Please, the same law that protects you also protects everyone else. While you have the right to speak your mind, most will agree your rights stop at interfering with others’ rights. Christian conservatives, you are so intent on having our way, but the more you push your views upon everyone the more you push them away! Remember Mr.. James, the Baptist student ministers’ statement about forcing the Bible down someone’s throat is no way to gather a flock. Yes, convey your ideals, but you cannot educate someone if they do not want to listen. And, offending them is a good way to close their ears and minds. In the argument about everyone’s rights there was a compromise offered of a â€Å"civil union†. This gave same sex couples some of the rights they were looking for, becoming a family making health insurance extendable to the partner, child custody between partners, survivorship of property in the event of one partner’s death. This was not upheld at the federal level, only a handful of states accommodated. Somehow this was not enough; you had to have â€Å"marriage† and not a â€Å"civil union†. (GLAD) Same but separate somehow. It is not so much the word as it is the idea. I was hung up on why â€Å"marriage† was so important; the civil unions were on the right track. But if you were to say to me that Which was not a real religion, I would very likely go off on the discrimination of conservatives. Like many things, though, it takes time. How can you put complaining about homosexuals on a higher priority than starving children? I think even Jesus would say homosexuality is wrong, but spend his time feeding the children, preach but not force. Homosexuals, Offer a compromise, take the unions and get your foot in the door. Even though one law wiped out slavery, the civil rights movement took a long time, and it came in stages. Even when other regress was made, interracial marriages still had to be overcome. Get the civil unions, push to get it to the federal level, get more equal footing, then when it is almost the same, push to call it marriage. I think you have to work on people a few at a time. Pushing against that many people all at once isn’t going to get you far. Logically, why should same sex marriages be outlawed? How many religions are out there, and how many claim to be the one true way to God? There are a few that don’t recognize only one god, then there are the atheists who believe there is no god. If we re not going to dictate a religion, we cannot endorse any religions views on marriage. If our laws state that government and religion must be separate, why then, are we even debating the notions that the marriage defined in the bible is the only acceptable definition, when marriage is a legal institution? Unfortunately humans are an emotional creature. Some people so believe there is going to be hell to pay for homosexuality, those people have that right. The demographic of society has changed dramatically over the last 20 years and with that law enforcement has been changing, but have they been changing enough? Different law enforcement agencies have their own ways of implementing diversity in their practices and procedures, some of them are better than others, but with issues that happen today it is important that they do something. There have been major incidents in our generation that have caused the need for diversity reform in law enforcement. The biggest incident was the attacks on the United States of America that occurred on September 11th, 2001. The attacks that occurred on this day caused great hate for the Middle Eastern culture. According to huffingtonpost. com there have been multiple occurrences of violence against the Middle Eastern culture post 9/11. History proves that minorities have always been treated lesser than the majority. The biggest historical incident that proves this is the enslavement of Africans in America. Africans were brought into America under the worst conditions, they were treated like animals, and disregarded as ignorant, and inferior. Ever since Lincoln freed the slaves with the emancipation proclamation there has been great hate towards this culture. There were groups formed, such as the Ku Klux Klan that’s soul purpose was to get rid of African Americans. Following this African-Americans were always treated as unequal to the white male. They were segregated and found it utterly impossible to gain any ground in society. How could they? African Americans rarely got the opportunity to get an education or have a good job. Hate crimes have continued to be a very real issue for African Americans. One of the men in the car yelled â€Å"Obama† Then, the men got out of the car and beat the youth with a metal pipe and collapsible police baton, injuring his head and legs. The men went on to commit additional assaults that night. † (civilrights. org) Again, here is another prime example of why it is important to reform diversity in law enforcement and think of creative ways to educate and police these communities. There are some law enforcement agencies that are taking a proactive approach by implementing diversity training programs for their employees as well as the citizens in their communities The Bakersfield Police Department is a good example of this. According to an interview on usmayors. org, Bakersfield is one of the most diverse cities in the state of California. The Police Department there does what they think is necessary in order to train their officers on how to deal with the variety of cultures in the city. The Bakersfield Police Department also presents cultural awareness training during in-house advanced officer schools. This training is not sensitivity training nor is it designed to get the officer to adopt the characteristics of other cultures, rather it helps the officer gain an understanding of the differences between cultures. † (usmayors. org) It is programs like this that are going to make a huge difference in the hate crimes we see today. If we have officers that know the cultures and can police accordingly, they can make a difference in someone’s life. Not every department is as lucky as Bakersfield PD. There are places that may have poor practices, and care very little about diversity. It wont make a difference if we leave it up to the local government to develop diversity practices and procedures, because it would most likely get put on the back burner. This is something that needs to be mandated at a state level. If we implement statewide diversity practices and procedures that are enforced at the local level I believe that we would see a great change in our communities. We are all the human race, and I think it is sad when people forget that. Diversity should not be a controversial issue in society. I think with equality and cultural awareness being taught in our schools today we will soon see the end to â€Å"the minority† and focus more on the fact that we are all human.
